Senior Benefits Administrator

Primary functions of the position include responsibility for the accurate and effective administration of benefits related activities and compliance. Additional responsibilities below.

Responsibilities:

  • Research, design, recommend, implement and maintain benefit programs (401(k), corporate wellness, rewards/recognition, tuition and adoption assistance, corporate wellness, etc.)
  • Serve as the subject matter expert of the 401(k) retirement plan to include completion of the annual non-discrimination testing, audit, 5500 filing, distribution of SPDs and SARs and all other compliance related matters
  • Manage and oversee the discretionary contribution filing in coordination with Payroll and HRIS team members
  • Serve as primary contact for plan vendors and third-party administrators
  • Evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency
  • Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes and maintain plan documents
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting, fees and notices
  • Oversee enrollments, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, rollovers, QDROs, QMCSOs, distributions, loans, hardship withdrawals and maintenance of employee benefits profiles
  • Analyze current benefits, evaluating the use, services, coverage, effectiveness, costs, plan experience and competitive trends
  • Prepare, collect and organize data for outside auditors and actuaries to complete 401(k), retiree medical valuation, workers comp, payroll and other HR related audits

Qualifications:

  • BS degree or commensurate combination of education and experience

We are seeking experienced members to join the MedPro Group who are passionate about data and applying the latest machine learning technology to solve business problems. As part of a newly developed Data Science team, you will lend your hand in designing, and building out, the tools to help progress the company along its digital journey. In this role, you will utilize a vast amount of data to help develop a deep understanding of underwriting risk, reduce the volatility of medical malpractice claims, and build common analytic platforms across our diverse businesses. You will also build deep learning models for medical data extraction, mobile app deployment for production models, and an assortment of dashboards to drive actionable decisions.

You will have an impact on patient safety and the quality of billions of procedures performed annually by the 200,000+ MedPro Group insured healthcare providers. This position reports to the Lead Data Scientist and is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a quickly growing team with high visibility.

What We Look For:

  • We have a large number of projects in the underwriting, claims, marketing, security, and online areas. Successful candidates combine their in-depth understanding of each project's business outcome, strategic alignment, user impact, and technical feasibility and resource requirements to prioritize and optimize team efforts. This position would be focused on the leading claims initiatives with their hand-selected team.
  • You would be involved with multiple projects whose timelines range from days to months. We look for the ability to use independent judgment and initiative and to anticipate the needs of senior leadership. We desire candidates who can accomplish tasks without extensive direction. This will mean top-notch experience leading a diverse set of small projects with limited oversight.
  • Part of developing a first-rate data science team is improving the overall knowledge base of the company. You will design and manage programs to teach areas of the business new analytical tools, techniques, and visualizations, and to reinforce the idea that data is our strongest asset. Consulting / prior teaching experience is a plus.
  • Our team functions as an internal consultancy; you will need to develop strong working relationships between many different departments. As such, we look for the ability to positively represent your Data Science team, interact and provide direction to members at all levels and departments at MedPro, and be able to speak to what is new and upcoming in our field. Preference will be given to candidates who are willing to relocate to Ft. Wayne.

What skills you need:

Infrastructure and Design:

  • A strong history of good experiment design and related project management skills. Your documentation will often be the basis for outside departmental training.

Unstructured Data:

  • Extensive experience with NLP, text mining, and some experience with deep learning for image processing or extensive experience with deep learning for image processing and some experience with experience with NLP and text mining.
  • Experience with claims notes and sourcing and merging additional external sources of data.

Model Development and Deployment:

  • A strong history working throughout the complete lifecycle (from idea to execution) for cloud-based machine learning in AWS SageMaker / Python. This would include parametric and non-parametric modeling for supervised and unsupervised solutions.
  • A strong understanding in the different ML techniques and variable reduction approaches as well as parameter and hyper-parameter tuning.
  • Strong coding skills are paramount here. You will need the ability to script and program to mine data, automate tasks, etc. NOTE: We WILL be doing (short) programming tests in Python.

Education/Experience:

  • Masters in statistics or related field. PhD or a record of accomplishment of continued learning is preferred.
  • 6+ years of technical experience with the above qualifications.
  • A history of leading junior team members. This position will be responsible for hiring and managing direct reports.
