Continuing Education ON-DEMAND PROGRAMS

Informed Consent: An Ethical and Legal Imperative

Lack of, or inadequate, informed consent is an allegation often cited in malpractice or negligence claims. This program reviews the evolution of informed consent and the requisite elements of an informed consent process, including a thorough provider–patient discussion and appropriate use of forms. Additional topics covered include therapeutic privilege, consent for special populations, and informed refusal. The program concludes with risk mitigation strategies to improve patient communication and comprehension and support an optimal informed consent process.
