Medical Protective Aids Virginia Dental Association Foundation's Mission of Mercy
Supplies and equipment replenished after fire destroys building
FORT WAYNE, IN – November 3, 2010 – Medical Protective financially supported the Mission of Mercy (MOM) after a fire destroyed the Virginia Dental Association's headquarters in Richmond. The MOM project was first launched in July of 2000, with a mission to provide free dental care to rural or low income communities in Virginia by traveling to about six events per year. In the following years, the project provided needed dental relief to countless people, and 20 other states have adopted similar programs.
Medical Protective donated $5,000 to the project so that the Mission of Mercy could replenish their supplies and equipment. The fire was started by a lightning strike on July 29th and caused severe damage to the building. While the fire took place after work hours and no one was injured, all of the project supplies and equipment for Mission of Mercy were destroyed, except for a small amount of supplies stored in trucks parked behind the building.

While the fire did destroy various supplies and equipment, it did not destroy the Mission of Mercy. With the aid of donations from companies such as Medical Protective and with the help from various volunteers, the project will soon be up and running again. In response, Dr. Terry Dickinson, the VDA executive director commented, "It's a mess, but people have been terrific in wanting to help. It's an opportunity for everyone to draw together and focus on getting better. We're the VDA."
