Pain Management in the Dental Setting: Risk Management Considerations for Opioid Prescribing

This program describes the current opioid epidemic, including its implications for the practice of dentistry, and identifies common characteristics of high-risk patients and prescribing issues. An effective approach to patient assessment before prescribing opioids is presented, and three case studies are explored. Current CDC, ADA, and other prescribing recommendations are discussed, along with strategies for minimizing the use of opioids following higher-pain dental procedures.
